REFLECTION
Experience
Overall, it was an extremely challenging module to complete. With all the kerning, leading, resizing, I definitely learned a lot from what those little changes could do. I felt burned out halfway through the semester due to the over usage of my creative juice, however I still pulled through. I am also extremely thankful to Mr Vinod for being strict and meticulous about our work, resulting in good progress. At first, I was worried about it being a module that I wouldn't enjoy since it was very detail-oriented, but I found purpose behind those details. The illusion it creates is fascinating to eyes and I have to agree it is something worth learning about.
Observations
I used to read a lot of book and magazines when I was younger but have I ever observed the format of how the text is placed? Absolutely not. Now there is no turning back as I will constantly pay attention to the details of the font, font size and etc. I was also impressed on how just type could express one's emotion and with no help of graphics. Flashback to my first day of attending my very first typography class, I thought it was the end of the world, learning about design without graphics and thought that it will be impossible to do. Typography has truly opened a new door to my design world.
Findings
Typography is the art and technique of arranging type in a creative way with typefaces, font size, line spacing and etc. There are many purposes of typography. It could be for the aesthetics, it could also be for an easier reading experience but overall it creates great balance to the text. It is indeed a time-consuming process and many research is required to come up with an excellent work. Always relate your work to existing types so that you could get a rough idea of what went wrong and maybe elevate your work from there.
