Introduction to Basic Compositions
Focal point:
A key element to any good composition is a strong focal point. It helps your viewers’ eyes naturally settle on the important pieces of
your design first
Scale and Hierarchy:
Scale is often used to help communicate hierarchy by drawing attention toward and away from certain elements, thus signifying their importance to the communication.
Balance:
A good technique for mastering asymmetrical balance is to think
of each element as having a ‘weight’ to it.
Smaller objects might ‘weigh’ less than larger objects, and heavily textured elements might ‘weigh’ more than flatly colored elements.
White space:
White space is mostly known as “empty space” to balance up the
main focus of a composition.
It can help boost your design’s clarity and overall look by
balancing out the more complicated and busy parts of your
composition with space that
helps your design to breathe.
Rules of thirds:
helps composition techniques that are in line with what is naturally pleasing to the eye.
use negative space creatively
Golden ratio:
a useful guideline for determining dimensions of the layout
helps in creating and appreciating a sense of beauty through harmony and proportion.
One very simple way to apply the Golden Ratio is to set your
dimensions to 1:1.618

Week 5 :
Since there was no class today, we learned about double exposure and how to
do it.

Week 6 :
Digital photography
exposure setting
1. iris (control the flow of light entering the lens) 2. shutter speed
- slow shutter, allows more light come in whereas fast shutter lets less
light in
3. iso (affects brightness of photos)
lens perspective
wide angle
standard
tele
depth of field: the proportion of the image that is reasonably sharp and
focus

Week 9 :
Steps summary
1. use pen tool to draw face shape
2. make selection
3. right click then press layer via cut
4. move the face out of its original place
5. use pen tool ( change from path to shape )

INSTRUCTIONS
Following the Sustainable Development Goals, we have to pick one SDG and
come out with an impactful poster using the Photoshop application
EXERCISES
Week 4 :
Research 01
1a.What is Poster Design?
A large sheet with images and text aiming to catch audiences'
attention
1b.What is good poster design?
A design that still maintains a clear and clean overall look, but
still look eye-catching enough
1c.What is a photographic poster? What is an illustrated poster?
Photographic poster
Photographic prints are high-quality, detailed, and accurate
representations of images, typically used for fine art or archival
purposes. Posters, on the other hand, are lower-quality prints
produced for advertising, decoration, or informational purposes.
Choose based on intended use and desired quality.
1d. Share a good photographic poster.
In class exercises:
Trying blending using a gradient layer and adjusting it's setting for
it to look more natural

2a. What is Double Exposure?
A combination of two exposures in one image to produce evocative
results.
2b. What is Digital Double Exposure?
A photograph composed of two combined and overlaid images.
2c. Share a good Double Exposure.

add something to the background eg: sky
sakura branches could grow out

We also tried experimenting taking pictures from these different
camera settings:
wide angle: 0.5X/ 0.6X
standard angle: 1X
tele angle: 2X

MyTiger project
The SDG that I have picked is "Life on land"
1. IDEA 1
Fig 7.1 sketch
Fig 7.2 pictures used
Fig 7.3 first draft
Feedback : the idea of the flames as words is smart, but the photoshop editing isn't really good
After doing this, I was not satisfied with the idea, therefore I decided
to come up with a second poster idea
2. IDEA 2
For this idea, I decided that I still wanted a human to still be in it,
but this time they will be carrying a plant, symbolising the land trees,
and it being attached to waste, as if they are the lung of the plants.
With this, it shows how much toxic substances the plants have to take in
everyday.

here, I was wondering if I should use plastic bottles or the cigarettes,
however I figured the cigarettes could send a more impactful message.

good work but insert a text

REFLECTION
While doing this project, I learned lots of new photoshop skills and learned how to apply them on my poster. I started off struggling with not being satisfied with my work, then got back up after with a new idea. I figured that looking at more inspirations can help this problem. Moreover, I found that layering and organizing you layers was extremely important and could be helpful for projects like this. As for the double exposure exercise, I learned that a double exposure exercise should always have it's subjects blending seamlessly with each other to have the effect.
